Design for Manufacturability: 5 Tips That Save Tooling Cost

1. Keep wall thickness uniform — variations cause sink marks and warpage.

2. Add generous draft angles (1–2°) so parts eject cleanly.

3. Avoid sharp corners; use fillets to reduce stress concentration.

4. Design bosses and ribs with balanced thickness to prevent sink.

5. Specify tolerances only where functional — over-tight tolerances raise cost without adding value.

Our DFM review returns actionable feedback on your 3D model, usually within one business day, so tooling starts from a manufacturable design.
